What Is Measured
Bandwidth is the outbound internet traffic sent by your computes: data leaving our network for the internet, such as responses your applications send to visitors and files they download from you. These are not counted and are always free:- Inbound traffic, such as uploads to your computes and packages you download onto them.
- Traffic between your computes, and any traffic that stays inside our network.
Allowance per Specification
Each specification includes a monthly allowance, and bigger specifications include more. You can see the allowance for each specification in the Bandwidth column when you create a compute. 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes.How the Team Allowance Works
The allowance is pooled per team. Every compute adds its allowance to one team-wide amount, and your bill depends on the team’s total traffic against that amount. One busy compute can use the allowance of quieter ones. Part of a month counts for part of the allowance. A compute adds its allowance for the share of the month it exists. For example, a compute created halfway through a 30-day month adds about half of its monthly allowance. A compute you destroy keeps the share it built up until it was destroyed. Stopped computes still count. A stopped compute is still billed, so it keeps adding to the allowance. Upsizing gives you the bigger allowance for that whole month. If you upsize a compute, the new specification’s allowance applies from the start of the month you upsized in. Past months are not changed. Months follow UTC. A month starts at 00:00 UTC on the 1st, which is 02:00 in Kigali.Price
Traffic above your team’s allowance is charged per GB. You can see the current price per GB in the Bandwidth tab of your team’s billing overview.How It Is Charged
Bandwidth is charged the same way as your computes: daily, from your credits first and then your balance.- Each day, we work out your team’s usage for the month so far, take away the team allowance and what you have already been charged this month, and charge the rest.
- Charges are in steps of 0.01 GB, rounded down. Anything below that carries over to the next day, so nothing is charged twice and nothing is lost.
- On your monthly invoice, bandwidth has its own Bandwidth section with one line, Extra Bandwidth Usage, showing the GB above your allowance, the price per GB and the amount.
Where to See Your Usage
For the whole team: go to Team Settings > Billing > Overview and open the Bandwidth tab. For the selected month it shows:- the team’s usage against its allowance;
- the cost of any usage above the allowance, and the price per GB;
- Usage breakdown: each compute’s usage against the allowance it adds to the team.
Monthly usage covers full days, up to the end of the previous day in UTC, so today’s traffic is added tomorrow. The Network chart shows live traffic, so the two can differ during the day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I pay for traffic coming into my computes?
Do I pay for traffic coming into my computes?
No. Only outbound internet traffic counts. Inbound traffic is always free.
Is traffic between my computes counted?
Is traffic between my computes counted?
No. Traffic that stays inside our network, including traffic between your computes, is free and does not use your allowance.
Does unused allowance carry over to the next month?
Does unused allowance carry over to the next month?
No. Each month starts with a new allowance based on the computes in your team that month.
How do I get a bigger allowance?
How do I get a bigger allowance?
Upsize a compute or add computes to your team. A bigger specification gives the bigger allowance for the whole month you upsize in.
